In the previous entry of The Electric Race, I gave a brief overview of the history of electric cars and some brief information on two incredibly popular electric cars on the market today, the Tesla Model S and the Toyota Prius Prime. And while those are two very well-known and respected automobiles, they are not the only electric cars on the road today. And since electric cars are starting to enter the mainstream, I figured I could mention a few more vehicles that are pushing the electric movement forward.
Nissan Leaf
Though not as technologically advanced or equipped as the Toyota Prius Prime or the Tesla Model S, the Nissan Leaf has steadily risen in the sales charts over the years. With its incredibly compact design and spacious interior that seats 5 and unique and innovative gear interface, the Nissan Leaf is one of the most impressive electric cars available today. However, where the Leaf truly stands out is in its efficiency. A single charge can give 107 miles. The Leaf is certainly a car you should keep your eye on.
Ford Fusion Energi
Ford is another major player in the electric car industry. The Ford Fusion Energi is almost as powerful as the Leaf, offering 104 miles on a single charge. Although the Fusion Energi is not as energy efficient as the Leaf or technological innovative as Tesla’s Model S, it does feature standard mileage and a more traditional sedan design than the Leaf, and is much more affordable than the Model S.
Chevrolet Volt
Much like the Prius Prime mentioned in the previous article, The Chevy Volt is a hybrid vehicle. According to Chevrolet’s official website, the Volt can drive 53 miles solely on electricity. However, in order to be cost-effective for the buyer, the car must have a full tank of gas and a full charge, which allows for up to 420 miles. And although the Volt is not as energy efficient as the Prius Prime, it does feature heavy technological integration. Most notably, the Volt offers a mobile application that allows drivers to control certain aspects and features of the car, such as locking and unlocking the doors, sending destinations to the navigation system and even setting parking reminders.
